Custom-Fitted Rugs and Runners Throughout a Grand Merrick Estate
This Merrick estate called for a coordinated program of custom rugs and runners across a formal dining room and connecting marble hallways, each space finished with inlaid stone borders that needed to be respected rather than covered.
We fabricated an octagonal dining rug shaped to fit precisely within the room's decorative marble inlay, along with matching runners for the adjoining hallways, all in a durable, neutral woven texture that complements the home's gilded furnishings.

The Challenge
The dining room's marble floor included a custom inlaid border that the rug needed to sit inside without overlapping, requiring a non-rectangular, mitered shape cut to exact tolerances. The connecting hallways needed matching runners that felt part of the same design program rather than separate purchases.
Our Solution
We measured the inlay pattern precisely and fabricated an octagonal rug scaled to the dining table and chairs, finished with a clean bound edge. Matching runners were cut for the connecting hallways in the same texture and border detail to unify the spaces.
Our installation included:
- Precise measurement of marble inlay and room proportions
- Texture and colorway consultation
- Custom octagonal fabrication and edge binding
- Matching hallway runner fabrication
- Delivery and final placement
The Finished Result
The finished rooms feel tailored and complete, with the octagonal rug framed perfectly by the marble inlay and the matching runners carrying the same texture through the connecting hallways.
