A Herringbone Engineered Hardwood Floor for a Forest Hills Residence
The owners of this Forest Hills residence wanted to replace worn flooring throughout their entry hall and connecting rooms with something that felt more considered than a straight-plank installation, while still holding up to daily foot traffic.
We recommended an engineered hardwood in a rich walnut tone, laid in a herringbone pattern that gives the long hallway a sense of rhythm and craftsmanship as it moves from room to room.

The Challenge
The hallway connects several rooms at slightly different angles, with multiple doorway transitions and a pre-existing patterned area rug at one end. The herringbone pattern needed to stay centered and consistent through every turn and threshold.
Our Solution
Our installers planned the herringbone layout from the hallway's centerline outward, working each plank into doorway transitions so the chevrons met cleanly at every threshold. Engineered construction was chosen for its dimensional stability in a multi-unit building.
Our installation included:
- Subfloor inspection and preparation
- Herringbone layout planning from centerline
- Precision cutting at doorways and transitions
- Engineered plank installation
- Final inspection and walkthrough

The Finished Result
The finished hallway now reads as a considered architectural detail rather than a plain corridor. The herringbone pattern and warm walnut tone tie the connecting rooms together while standing up to the wear of a busy household.
