A Navy Bordered Runner for a Modern Malverne Staircase
This newly built Malverne home has a staircase defined by light oak treads and sleek black balusters, and the homeowners wanted a runner that would introduce color without competing with the clean, modern railing detail.
We selected a deep navy runner with a tonal border, fabricated to sit precisely within the width of each oak tread and installed with crisp, consistent coverage down the full flight.

The Challenge
The staircase's light oak and black ironwork left little room for a runner that felt busy or heavy. The runner needed to add warmth and color while keeping a tailored, contemporary line against the exposed wood on either side.
Our Solution
We compared several dense, saturated colorways before selecting a navy construction with a self-toned border, fabricated to leave a consistent reveal of oak on each tread and installed tread by tread for clean, even coverage.
Our installation included:
- Individual tread measurement
- Colorway and border selection
- Custom cutting and edge binding
- Precision installation on treads and risers
- Final inspection and walkthrough
The Finished Result
The finished staircase feels current and considered, with the navy runner adding color and traction while the exposed oak treads keep the overall look light and architectural.
