A Patterned Runner Installed on a Sweeping Staircase and Mezzanine
This Rockville Centre residence centers on a dramatic curved staircase rising past a second-floor mezzanine, with marble flooring, dark wood railings, and tall windows framing every landing. The homeowners wanted a runner bold enough to hold its own against the architecture without disrupting its sweep.
We selected a spotted, animal-print pattern in soft grays and creams, bordered in brass stair rods that echo the home's existing hardware and add a tailored, finished edge to every tread.

The Challenge
A continuously curving staircase with a mezzanine landing meant the runner had to track a constantly changing radius while keeping the pattern visually centered from the entry, the stairs, and the floor above. Any drift in alignment would be obvious against the marble and dark millwork.
Our Solution
Our installers measured every tread and riser individually, accounting for the tightening curve near the top landing. The runner was cut and fitted tread by tread, then secured with brass stair rods positioned to keep the pattern reading as one continuous sweep from the entry hall to the mezzanine.
Our installation included:
- Individual tread and riser measurement
- Pattern and colorway selection
- Custom cutting for a continuously curved run
- Brass stair rod fitting
- Final alignment check from all sightlines

The Finished Result
The finished staircase reads as a single, sculptural gesture, with the patterned runner drawing the eye up through the curve to the mezzanine above. The brass rods add a polished, traditional detail that suits the home's formal entry.
